On this page, you can make a request for a lesson or a request for a new feature in new lessons like, fretboard maps, metronome examples, mp3′s of licks taught, you get the picture. At least I hope you do.
By doing this you will help me to get a better understanding of what you would like to learn. Keep in mind that I can’t make any lessons on individual songs such as “How to Play Crossroads.” Techniques, styles, theory, concepts, and such are what you should list here. Or anything you are having a problem with or would like to learn.
I will then look at all the requests and incorporate what I plan on releasing, with what is listed here to create future Free and paid lessons.
To leave a request, simply leave a comment below.
Thanks.
John W. Tuggle

Acoustic guitar blues and or country lessons.
Country telecaster lessons.
You have a lot of Duane style slide lessons, but no lessons on his regular playing what I know. Those would be nice though.
Also, a few lessons on my biggest guitar hero, Rory Gallagher, would be cool. And some more Hendrix lessons too.
Acoustic slide blues !!!!! ;
A great example: Chevrolet song by Derek trucks on Songlines album ; terrific !
More blues by the bar like the last BB King lesson which I enjoy very much. Thanks!
But it doesn’t have to be in anyone’s style. Just some tasty phrases over 2 or 3 bars.
I’m sure many will love it..
John, it would be fun and instructive to see and hear a couple of free lessons where you emphasize phrasing by playing almost the exact same notes in various styles, such as blues, rock, country, funk, whatever else catches your fancy. The learning objective would be to expand the imaginations of the students while demonstrating the flexibility of the techniques they learned in one genre and using it in another.
I would like to have a lesson on double stops and how to apply them in all chord progressions
Hi John,
I’d probably pay just to see how to get that Jump Rhythm thing you have in that Dickie Betts video. Man I can’t get that right!
Slide Lessons on the following would be nice:
.
It Hurts Me Too
Rory Gallagher
Time discussion and metronome exercises
Derek Trucks picking techniques – Something along the lines of how he (and others) incorporate the bass strings with the high ones and not have it become a jangly mess like when I do it,
Thanks again for all the information you provide. Most appreciated.
id like to have more on standard tuning slide .. licks / solos / tricks or part 3 / 4 / 5 .standard slide i want to be great at it.. id like to get all the schooling possible … help me out john!!!
help with amp and guitar settings for blues
Any chance you could do the two lick intro to Stand Back off of Eat A Peach in a video podcast?
I’d love to see some material on Mike Bloomfield or Roy Buchanan..
Would like to see a lesson on Stormy Monday in standard tuning in the style of the Allman Bros. Much like what you have done with Blue Sky, Whipping post etc. Looking at chord variations, along with typical licks.
Cheers
John it would be great to have some more examples of advanced technique building exercises. Your slide lesson package has some great ones that have helped tremendously but I find it hard to come up with new ones to progress past that point. Perhaps another excercise to develop better timing of the rake technique for example.
Thanks for all the support so far
.
This might be a little eclectic, but Ry Cooder is one of my favorite slide guitarists. I’m not sure, but I think Ry does most of his slide work in Open G Tuning, and I don’t know if that’s an area you’d like to expand to. Also, Ry’s styles over the years have crossed over into so many different genres. Ry’s renditions of Blue Suede Shoes (Album: The Slide Area), Get Rythm and Let’s Have A Ball (Album: Get Rythm), Never Make Your Move Too Soon (Borderline) and Down in Hollywood and The Very Thing That Makes You Rich Makes Me Poor (Album: Bop ‘Till You Drop) are representative of the style that I’d be interested in learning. Hell, I personally think Ry’s renditions of Blue Suede Shoes and Let’s Have A Ball would be show-stoppers on any stage! I love your lessons, John, and have learned alot – keep up the good work and thanks so much. For anyone who’s on the fence: I purchased John’s “Slide Guitar in Open E Tuning” and “Blues Guitar” lesson series, and can attest to the fact that they are outstanding!!!!!
Very much enjoy the free lessons and riffs that you have posted. Thanks for all the good stuff. I have a request for a Derek and the Domino’s tune called “its to late”. Does not seem to be to much although the rhythm is a bit tricky. At any rate keep up the great work! Thanks again.
Jimmy Page’s complete intro to “You Shook Me” in open E tuning.
Thanks!
Don
I’d like to see some lessons for a slide using a resonator/dobro in open e. Also, I’ve always loved the little jam at the end of Mountain Jam from the Fillmore east. Starts at 27:20 and ends at about 30 min. Really like to see this. Thanks John.
John,
I’m interested in picking up some Steve Cropper stuff–Dock of the Bay, Soul Man, Booker T & the MGs stuff. Kinda like the guitar work on Van Morrison’s “Brown Eyed Girl.”
Thanks,
Bart
One Of These Days- Joe Bonamassa Opening riff and slide at the end
Hi John,
I’m really interested in learning some rhythm licks and vamps for open e slide. There seems to be a lot of lead instruction—-but it’s the little “in betweens” that are hard to come up with—and really are appreciated by the other lead players in the band . Thanks, John
Hi
I am 10 years old and learning to play the blues, if you do any blues lessons please make them slow blues like SRV Lenny other blues lessons dont have the real blues feeling
Hi John, my request are as you stated, blues rhythm
guitar and mp3′s of licks taught. Keep up the good work. Harold
Hello John,
The email contact updates are great, appreciated.
John, your Slide Guitar Method Std tuning DVD’s covers a lot.
I’d love, “just a list” broken out, of Two-bar 4/4 time, licks. So, for 8beats, or 4even from the “box” and how-to breakout the “routine” to the Melody… which is different for each song. Sometimes, when someone tells me, oh.. Clapton did this, but this is the root of it, he based it upon… I better “get it”, and move it around and make it my own, on my own self taught style.
Thank you!
More tunes in standard tuning slide like your 3 disc package. How about a lesson that bundles Layla, Stormy Monday, and Melissa in standard tuning slide. Also a lesson on getting a country sound in standard tuning slide. Enjoy your thoughts on theory and dynamics. Lastly, how about a lesson in dropped D,with alternating bass, accoustic or electric.
Hi John,
sames as Paul J Howe and different Blues Chord progressions including Jazzblues.
Warren Hayens style.
Thank You John for great inspiration with your work!

Hi,
When you give us a lesson can you also tell us how you set up your amp to give the same sound. When i play any of your lessons they do not sound like your guitar. One good example is your recent lesson pod cast 46 you sound great. Mine sounds crap.
Regards Bob.
Hi John, playing leadguitar in a coverband I would like to learn heartache tonight by the eagles slide in the standard tuning. Is that posible.
Greetings Thei Geenen Velden The Netherlands
Hello John, I know that you’re a very big fan of Eric Clapton as many else are. And i would really appreciate if you could make a series of lesson in HOW TO PLAY like ERIC CLAPTON. Just like that you did with the bb king lessons
Cheers, love your stuff
Hey John,
I would like to learn more of Derek Trucks stuff like crow jane, voluntered slavery, mahjoun, and I am dying to learn sahib teri bandi-maki mandi. I own many slide instruction videos but yours is the best. Thank you for documenting and teaching this style of music.
Any chance you can create downloads on guitar theory. I take lessons, but still find theory a bit challenging.
Hey John,
In your 5 DVD Blues Guitar Course you mention how important it is to practice scales with a backing track. I feel that this is extremely important because it gets your ear and fingers accustomed to the tempo of the track. Could you post a video of you doing this over a backing tracking using the minor pentatonic, the major pentatonic, and the mixolydian scales; as well as the extended/sliding scale patterns.
-Thank You
It would be cool if you could do some ry cooder type of slide. More fingerpicking slide u know
Thanks for the comment. This is what I’ve been working on. http://learningguitarnow.com/blog/slide-guitar/open-g-tuning-guitar-lesson/
Would love to hear some Derek and the Domino’s “style” lessons.
Hey John…How about a lesson on the Midnight in Harlem style song…..I know you’ve been playin it….Some nice Derek style E major stuff..
I’d like to learn more about Robin Trower’s style. Also, any chance you could do a lesson on tremolo bar techniques?
john how about some t bone walker style.
Hey John,
Maybe u could try Luther Dickinson’s style of slide and the tricks he does from the North Mississippi Allstars and the Black Crows ?
It would be nice if we could get some lesson of any Derek Trucks’s songs.
At least for me, that would be great. E.g. Sahib Teri Bandi, I Wish I Knew, Key To The Highway, Sailing on, Crow Jane (all versions from Songlines Live DVD).
Thanks!
I can’t make any songs I don’t have the license to, so not sure if that can happen.
Thanks,
John
Ohh, that’s a shame for me.
Just curious, how can you make Get what you deserve etc, on DVD’s?
hey john,
what would be really cool is if u could show how Derek Trucks gets those volume swell licks so clean and perfect. ex little queen of spades solo crossroads
Don’t know if this is part of you expertise, but I would like to get better travis style on the acoustic, ie Doc Wtason Deep River Blues… I got about 65% of what he is playing but having trouble making it flow or putting all together. I know that its really a difficult goal but I can listen to a 100 times an still not get tired of it. I wasted a lot of years because like you say I never tried something more difficult until now. That song is particularly appealing to me . Thanks M
Unfortunately that is not a style I’m very good at, so I won’t be making any lessons about that style.
Thanks,
John
how about some t bone walker and some west coast blues.
Hey John,
Now that you’ve got your Strat hooked up, can you do some Jimmy Herring style licks?
This may be a stupid request, but I’d love to see a podcast that breaks down the opening lick and rythm parts for “Got My Mojo Working” – that old Muddy Waters chestnut. It’s a lick that I’ve been trying to figure out for a long time with no success. I think it’s a generic enough lick (meaning that it can be played for any number of songs) and is so basic that it should be in any player’s bag of tricks. Standard tuning or Open E – whatever you think works the best! Tommy Castro does a killer version of the song, and there’s a fantastic version on the live CD that Muddy did with Johnny WInter and James Cotton. Thanks for taking the time and interest to ask for suggestions!!!
Hey john I’ve spent the last couple of months watching your lessons there awsome I’ve purchased your 6 dvd open e lesson. I’m a massive derek, warren, duane,ry.fan recently I stumbled across a Derek trucks video where he described his influence ie. Duane, elmore and little Walter and aretha. Was trying to improvise over old gospel songs was wondering if you could put together a gospel style phrasing lesson on slide. Cheers andy.
Do you do individual lessons over skype, by any chance?
Not right now. I’m not really fond of doing skype lessons.
Hey John how about a lesson on the little triplet run Duane Allman does at the end of Hey Jude and holds for I think something like 30 seconds straight in Liz Reed on Fillmore east?
John, I reaaly enjoy your lessons and have been learning alot from your dvd course. But how about a course on slow blues? You know the Gary Moore type things like Seperate Ways or Still have the Blues for You kind of things. You know where the guitar really has something to say. The shuffle is fine and rip it up licks are great to in their place. But to me there is nothing like a guitar having a soulful conversation. Thanks for all your hard work
Regrads,
Glenn
Thanks. Have you checked out my Slow Blues Guitar Solo Lesson? http://www.learningguitarnow.com/blues-guitar-lessons-dvd-6/
Jump Rhythm for blues
Acoustic blues and country lessons.
Single string lines/melodies with a slide. I think of Luther Dickinson with this style.
Would you mind maybe showing us a Jimmy Page style lick.
Also, you might have this somewhere, but it would be cool to have a page where you list all the gear you have.
Thanks for the comment. I’ve added a resources page here. http://www.learningguitarnow.com/gear-and-resources/
As some others have mentioned, some acoustic blues lessons would be good.
Have you ever considered trying to teach a SRV style? Or you could make a departure and teach Brian Setzer! I would definitely pick that up!
you could teach us how to play guitar in open E without slide, would be very cool
