Podcast 1-26 were recorded about 3-4 years ago and some of the lessons contain bad video quality, information about products that are no longer available, and some of the lessons I don’t feel like were my best information. I was learning about doing a video guitar lesson podcast.

Some of these video podcasts’ are not compatible with the ipod or iphone as well. The original video files were lost due to a hard drive failure so there can be no editing of the videos. For these reasons, I have decided to remove them forever. They are gone and will not ever be available.

You can check out all the other video podcasts’ here.

Hope you understand.

Best,

In Video Podcast 57, I want to show you a standard tuning slide guitar lick in the style of Warren Haynes. This is the first lesson where I use the 335 for playing standard tuning slide.

This guitar has not been setup for slide. The action is pretty low and I’m using a set of .010′s for strings.

It is harder to play like this, but not impossible. You really have to keep a light touch, while pressing the slide gently against the strings.

Watch the Video

Tab for this Lesson

To get the tone for this lesson, the amp is a 1966 Fender Vibrolux on 6 with a Weber Mini Mass. For pedals I used a Fulltone OCD and a VL Effects Vintage Fat Boost pedal. Having them both on at the same time gives a real nice, fat overdrive like Warren always uses. The reverb on the amp was set to 4 which also contributes to the tone.

Using Eb tuning can really give you some new sounds to all of your old licks. For some reason, your licks just sound a little bit meaner when tuned down. I guess it’s partially due to the string tension being changed. You’ll need to throw on a set of .011s to achieve this sound as well. I like GHS Boomers.

In video podcast 51, I want to show you a Dobro lesson that comes from my Open G Tuning Guitar Course. This actual lesson is not in the course. It’s just a simplified version of the full lessons taught in the DVD.

This type of dobro lick is similar to one being used by Robert Johnson in “Crossroads” and can be played in many variations. This is played in open g tuning over the I Chord G.

To play this in the key of A, you would simply use a capo and move the notes up respectively. This lick will give you that real Delta blues sound when playing the blues, and it’s not that hard to play either.

It’s critical that you practice repeating the lick over and over again to get the feel of it. Just keep repeating it until you feel very comfortable with it.

I first heard this lick in the Jimi Hendrix tune “May This Be Love”. It’s a great way to use the Major Pentatonic scale and you can see directly how SRV, and John Mayer were influenced by this Hendrix Lick.
