So I’ve been working on these lessons for this DVD for a while now, and finally came up with something that I thought people should know. I think it is a logical progression in the series of Blues Guitar DVDs that I’ve created.

Method of Madness?
Putting together a DVD can drive me crazy as to what should go in it, what people want to go in it, and what I feel people should be learning next in this series of Blues Guitar DVDs.

In this DVD, I decided to teach about Blues Concepts and how I think about playing blues guitar, as well as some useful patterns and shapes that I use. This is not a Licks or Solos DVD, but a Concepts DVD. However, the concepts in this DVD will help you to create your own licks which is really the whole point of learning how to play the blues.

If you just copy somebody’s licks all the time, you’re never going to develop a style of your own, although it is necessary to learn other peoples licks as well. I’ve put together a lot of lessons with licks and solos, so I thought this was a natural progression in the lessons.

My Opinion
If I sat down with Joe Bonamassa, I really wouldn’t want him to show me licks, I would want to know why he did the things he did when playing leads and improvising. This would be much more helpful to me, because I could use his thought process along with my own when improvising.

Final Thoughts
I’m really proud of this DVD, and I hope people will like it. At this point, it’s the best DVD I could make at this point in time, so that’s all I can strive to do.

I’m a bit of a perfectionist, so putting together these lessons can be quite a challenge. I’ve been contemplating ideas for this DVD since March, and it’s changed probably at least 10 times since then.

Anyway, that’s a little insight into my method of madness if you will.
