Dear John
I think,
I would buy a new guitar.
Maybe a fender telecaster: something like the james burton model.
It would make me happy.
See you
Great Contest man! What would I buy??? hmm $500 would put me over the top and allow me to get either a new Les Paul or a 50W Reinhardt Storm…
Thanks for the chance. So far it’s 50/50 that a Jeremy will win
I would probably use this to help replace some of the equipment that I’ve had to sell over the last year or so in order to pay some bills. Maybe a strat or a Fender Deville.
I’d definitely be looking hard at a new Fender amp 2×12 100w.
I would buy some recording software, mixer, nice condenser mic., and of course a few slides !!!
Hey John,
I would put it towards a Marshall 1987XL 50 watt head.
I would replace the Crate G60 solid state amp I bought used for $40 with the Fender Blues Junior I’ve been coveting since I started playing. It would be a very exciting day for me.
I would by a Fender practice amp.
the fender strats look real good to me!
put it towards a strat
If I won, what would I buy? Tough question. Probably the new version of Reason that has Record built in.
Thanks for offering the contest. I would buy a BlackHeart Little Giant and a Ibanez tube screamer you recommend in your tone tip lesson.
Take care,
Brian
John,
I purchased your blues guitar 1 last week for 14.97 special. I am amazed!!! Compare to what I have learned the price was low. You really have helped my guitar playing and confidence. It is quite simple what I would do with the 500.00. I would buy more lessons from you John.
Sincerely,
Larry
Hi
Probably spend some on lessons and then pickups and pedals.
Good luck everyone!
thanks for the contest John.
I would buy some sort of small tube amp such the VOX ac4TV. I love that tube break up at the low volumes. I’d also get a microphone to record with so that I can play my slide I learned from John and not have my wife going crazy to turn everything down. The best of both worlds.
If I won I would put it towards some equipment for our church.
If I had $500 to spend, I would probably get some recording equipment, like a mic or two and some kind of software. Or if I could I would combine the gift card with some cash I already have and get a PRS SE custom.
If the contest $500 needs to be pro audio, I would LOVE to have a little mixer that would let me control my band’s three vocal mics and one Taylor acoustic guitar at your shows. We play some intimate coffee houses and rooms with reflective surfaces and I’d like to sound more professional by snagging the sometimes inevitable feedback before it goes global on me – no sound tech in our near future. If I could put the $500 toward a dream instrument, I would put the money toward a SPLATTER STRATOCASTER from Nick Church.
I would put it toward the Eleven Rack
Either use the prize towards a mixer or instrument. Mixer makes the most sense to me.
I would buy an epiphone 2 special performace pack.
A taylor solidbody. It will be mine, oh yes it will be mine ….
Thanks for the opportunity John! You do a great job furthering music. I personally would buy a Vox combo amp or maybe a Tascam portable recorder…
Either a digital recorder or a line 6 pod x3 live
use it towards a Marshall all tube stack
An acoustic amp might be a nice addition to my arsenal.
I would buy a Fender Blues Jr amp for my Strat while studying John’s tutorials!
Wow, thanks for the contest. Certainly put it towards an ac15.
I would buy a Fender Pro Junior.
I would probably buy some recording software, or maybe put towards a Les Paul.
I would buy a Gibson ES 359.
Hi! Thanks for the chance!
I would buy a class A head tube amp to play the blues in Brasil!
Buy a decent small tube amp. Then vist Georgia to listen and watch J.W. Tuggle play live and book a lesson. What an adventure!
I’d probably put it towards a Rickenbacker 4003 Bass to use to back up all these cool riffs I’ve been learning and using in my recordings.
If I won this contest I would definitely check out a new semi hollow body guitar of some sort. Preferably a 335 model.
I just love contest like these.I never win though, but it’s fun to try.I probably get
either 2 floor monitors or an Epi Les Paul.Hope I win.
hi! thanks John for all your very very useful and great courses !
buy overdrive pedal ocd and ibanez : the same J.W Tuggle uses in his video. and also tubes for my Fender amp
I would buy a Hot Plate attenuator so I can play my 50 watt plexi with the volume up loud, without peeling the paint off the walls. Then I would use the change for some Tuggle lessons on slide guitar.
I thought I’d hung up my guitar and microphone 40 years ago when at 19 years old my rock band Edible Fungi broke up because we were all off to different universities. At mine there were some weekly jazz jams and a folk club but nobody interested in forming a band to emulate the professionals who entertained at our Saturday rock concerts at the student union – all the prog rock bands like Stone The Crows, Ten Years After, Jethro Tull, Wisbone Ash, Little Feet, Fanny from the States and also experimental bands like Curved Air with theri computer and analogue effects, delicious folk-rock bands like Pentangle and crossover combos like Colosseum & The New Jazz Orchestra.
After a long life in electronics, computers and even a spell as a concert piano tuner I had a series of accidents that left me multiply disabled and mentally broken down. I gave up all forms of music, even singing, for three years while I was in and out of hospital. Then I had an invitation to join a community choir where the voice coach would help me to rediscover my voice. I have enjoyed singing with this group and we have gone from strength to strength with our latest crowning achievement being a performance at the 2009 London Jazz Festival that was recorded for broadcast on BBC radio during Christmas week.
Then just after Christmas I was approached by a band in the nearby city of Norwich, England working towards making their first CD, a group of people who had got together to explore music as a way out of mental prooblems. I went along expecting to meet a shy bunch of people with little musical ability or experience and fixated on their mental problems just like every other group session I had attended (and left) designed to help people overcome mental disabilities. Instead I found a band of four competent musicians bent on expressing themselves positively with a batch of up-tempo and varied compositions that ranged from R&B to heavy metal. Although they could all play, none of them felt confident about singing. They gave me a microphone and we set off into a batch of standard blues and rock numbers during which I rediscovered the ability to scream, wail and growl and to push my voice to the front of the driving rhythm of drums, bass, electric lead and a very nice top-notch Roland keybvoard.
There and then they asked me to be their vocalist for the new CD even though I told them I am pushing 60 and very out of practice and rusty at this sort of thing.
So, Sweetwater, what I need is a great sounding, powerful microphone -something like the $450 Sennheiser MD 431 II you have in stock and write so persuasively of as a vocalist’s perfect vehicle – so that I can hold my own in studio and maybe even on stage!
The name of my band is Black Dog. I may have joined the ranks of rock dinosaurs but there’s life in the old dog yet!
Thanks for the great contest!
I would buy my daughter an electric guitar. She is learning on an acoustic and wants to try going electric!
Thank you.
A great contest
As to what I´d do with the money: Bying your courses about blues and the use of a slide would be the first thing. The rest I´d probally spend on a small mixer.
Anyway, I do think that you´re doing a great job with your lessons and that they´re easy to follow.
This is simple, I’d buy a left handed guitar. I just started playing at an “older” (we’ll leave it at that) age and developed such bad arthritis in my left hand that it needs surgery. My next step is to re-endineer my brain and teach myself lefty. Then maybe a real top quality amp cable.
I’d buy a Deering banjo guitar. Or maybe a Jazz bass. Then again a Telecaster might be the perfect accompaniment to my repetoire.
I would probably purchase a Digitch JamMan to augment my guitar playing and create my own tracks and melodies.
hey i would the Cakewalk Sonar 8.5 softwear
Great contest John!
Sweetwater is an excellent company. If I won I would use the funds to upgrade my acoustic guitar. My current acoustic has seen better days.
Thank you!
I would buy a new Acoustic-electric Guitar…my acoustic was stolen.
500 bucks wold make a good down payment on new stage monitors and a digital recorder to go with the PA I bought from Sweetwater.
an entry level reso for front porch blues sessions.
Without a doubt I would get the Fender Blues Junior amp for $499.99
Cheers
John
A contribution towards the price of a Martin Electro-acoustic.. maybe the Martin DC-16GTE Premium?
Thanks for the running the competition John.
I would use it for a Epiphone Sheraton 2 Semi Hollow body Guitar. All the better to play along with Mr. Tuggle!
I would use the 500 toward a Gibson Les Paul. (Bob, I have an Epi Sheraton 2 loaded with Gibson 57 classics, nice guitar).
I’d put it toward a SG and some 57′ classics
I would get a decent but lower end electric, throw in some Duncans and set it up for slide ONLY. Man, its a pain going between guitars setting up for slide and returning for normal playing. I need a rig set to stay so all I have to do is change between tunings which is nowhere near the hassle!!
If I won the contest I would probably….
buy an ol’ dobro and play it across my knee.
i would look at getting a eletric guitar and order the blues on your site and get really serious about playing the blues which i love so much ps also a slide ,.
I am pretty keen on SE Reflexion and may be nice delay pedal.
John,
I love the tone you get on your Strat, so I’ll probably get a Pro Junior.
Thanks again for the great site. Just in case there are folks out there that aren’t getting your podcasts, get itunes and download the podcasts. They’re full of free lessons, equipment and album reviews.
Hello John, i love the lessons. ( especially the one on the mixolydian.)
my electric guitar`s neck just broke, and ive delevoped an allergy agains the paint on my cheap aquistic. so i dont have a guitar at the moment! its my passion, and im dead serious about it, already dropped out of school to pursue it lol=) so i won i would buy a new guitar! now i cant wait to see who wins hehe=)
Excellent Contest
And Sweetwater is such a great company to work with; They really know their stuff. That being said, I haven’t had an electric guitar in years, and my acoustic has seen better days. Having the itch to get back into playing out live again I would put the money toward a quality electric guitar – maybe even my dream – a PRS Santana model.
I am a Tele player; but have two already (A late 80’s Jap Tele and a ‘72 Reissue Teke Deluxe). Love them both but I think I would use the money help buy a Highway One; or a Player’s Deluxe Strat.
Eu compraria um Cube Roland 80X, achei o mesmo muito interessante para aprendizagem. Sou iniciante. Muito obrigado pela participação. Um grande e forte abraço.
I’d buy either a Les Paul or a Telecaster
I’d take your advice and buy a Fender Pro Junior to get that slide sound I’m looking for.
I would buy the DigiTech RP355, so I can record my original guitar music into the Cubase AI recording software on my computer.
Alesis SR-16 16-bit Digital Drum Machine to create new songs.
Marshall MG15FX 15-watt, 4-channel Guitar Combo Amp, to practice and minor performances.
That would round out the equipment I would need to move forward in my life long dream in being a songwriter & guitar player.
Thanks for the opportunity and the chance to win the $500 Sweetwater Pro Audio Gift Certificate.
P.S. I would be glad to pay the $9.93 difference lol
I am really keen on the SE Reflexion and I would love a delay pedal. I have a nice mike, but a dodgy sounding room for recording. The reflexion should do the trick nicely.
Cheers
hey sign me up for the contest, i would love to win so i can buy some gear
If I won I could start building our studio so my sons band could start recording their songs. Since I have been disabled since 2001 and not working, $500,00 would help a lot. Stay in peace.
Send me a Martin or Taylor acoustic Guitar, it looks like i have WON the contest.
Thanks in advance,
Hemal
It’s a hard question indeed…
There are so many things I’d love to do and as many as the things I’d need to have to do them…
And moreover I’m not living in the US so it gets even harder…
But it’s always worth trying…
Now I’d probably go for a
Boss FRV-1 ‘63 Fender Reverb to use with my guitar and my harmonica.
Shure Super 55 Deluxe to enhance the sound of my voice with that vintage sound.
A pair of tuners Planet Waves Universal Chromatic Tuner II, one for me and one for the guitarist in my band.
Taylor Suede Guitar Strap.
And the rest in some slides for my acoustic guitar,
Thank you very much for this great opportunity.
Hey John:
I’d probably buy a Boss RC-??? Loop Station to help me improve my practice regime. Been looking at one of those for awhile!
Thanks
Bob in Arizona
Hey John,
If I were to win this it would be a no brainer for me I would love to buy a small recording deck to record the practice sessions that my son and I have had as a result of the backing tracks we both have learned from. My son is 15 and is a really good aspiring drummer and has learned early the value of a good shuffle.I cannot afford a studio so this would be real cool.We would have memories for a lifetime.
Tommy G.
I would purchase an instrument for an underprivileged young person. I would also purchase a few guitar parts so that I could tinker with my guitars.
Sonny
BTW…. I would take pictures and post them on my blog

i would put it toward a fender vibrolux so i could play the blues all day and night.
I would buy one of those handy little portable recorders for sure..
Last summer a boy from church wanted my amplifier for his sister. I suppose that I would use the money so she could have what she wanted.
Having lost my job to the economy over a year ago, I started to play seriously. With the job market not improving I am beginning to play some gigs and even on the street for cash. I am currently using a Cort X2 through a Fender Champion 300.
If I won I would sell the Cort and a couple of other low end guitars and buy first an effects pedal that would give me much more flexibility in what I can play and hopefully a little higher end guitar
I did put it toward a PRS solid body electric or a Gibsion archtop!
John
If I won I would have to buy an electric acoustic guitar. I have an acoustic guitar but I need to get one thats electric. I want to play at my church and I need something I can tie into their sound system. This would be a great way to get a new guitar. Thanks for the constest, good luck to everyone.
I would definitely buy a new Fender or other tweed amp, as my mid 70’s Peavey Classic 2×12 100w just bit the dust.
Winning the $500 Id buy a pair of studio monitors
If I won I would probably spend it on a Martin Backpacker and then add a
pick-up to it. I`m kind-of into acoustics and I think I could create a great
sound and possibly very bluesey.
I need to get this skinny neck off of my american strat and get one with some meat to it, either a SRV of a Mayer.
if i won probably sure a strat or a mixer
Yea I’d have to buy a guitar of course. You can never have enough guitars.
I’d throw some extra coin in and pick up a Fender Tele maybe the Classic Custom ‘72 Telecaster Thinline or the Jim Adkins JA-90 Telecaster Thinline.

I’ve played guitar for years and I am a firm believer that effects are not necessary, any sound can be produced through the right guitar and amp. Wow, awesome giveaway because Sweetwater carries such a variety of killer stuff. Tough to say but would have to consider getting the resonator guitar I’ve wanted so long.
Wow! Sweetwater is one of the best sites! I just finished building a 5e7 bandmaster and I love reverb and delay, so I would get an analog delay (memory man) and a holy grail. That would be the one thing I would absolutely love! By the way john, you really have helped me with all of these blues licks, added some of the best moves to my arsenal!

Definitely … an electric guitar!
I would buy my very first acoustic-electric guitar. I’m kinda old for just starting-but an older soul has more to give.
Would love to add a Bass to my collection.
What i would buy is either a bass, so that i may learn to play similar to the bassist of muse, or a drum set to start rocking out like the pros
I would buy either a 5 string bass, or a semi-hollow electric guitar.
I’d buy a Line 6 Spider IV 75 or 120 comp amp. May get a hardshell case for my Strat….oh, so many fun things to consider actually. The amp is a must for sure.
I need a nice tube condenser for recording some swampy blues guitar. So I’d put that gift certificate toward something warm and fat [INSERT YOUR OWN JOKE HERE]
I would most certainly buy an Egnater Rebel-30 amp if i were lucky enough to win this giveaway. I’ve been drooling over that amp since before it was released.
I’d buy a decent neck for my Fender…Love the guitar, but the neck radius is disgusting…
Thank you for this opportunity!

100% a EHX Cathedral and Memoryman with Hazarai, and with the last bit i’d probably like to pick up a MXR Dyna Comp.
I would buy an Epiphone Archtop DOT in Ebony because I need a backup guitar, a Digitech RP55 multi-effect unit and two Onstage Stands Classic Guitar Stands because I need some more guitar stands.
This contest is awesome! I would definitely buy the Digidesign Producer Factory Pro!
I would buy some studio monitors for my recording setup.
What I’d buy? Well, being from a poor background, I’d invest in my passion, and my aspiring future, and purchase either a good electric guitar, or some microphones, or an amplifier. Fingers crossed I were to win.
I think I would get the Wechter Guitars Pathmaker Deluxe Thinline. I love it!
smchester at gmail dot com
I seriously need a new amp!
FIRST AND FOREMOST I WOULD LIKE TO THANK SWEETWATER AND JOHN FOR THIS GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS GREAT CONTEST.GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE! Thanks for the chance. Your site really rocks.
Hi,
I would buy:
A Line 6 POD Studio UX2 for 200 bucks, I’d use it to record songs.
An Epiphone Les Paul Pee Wee Rave Rig for 180 bucks for my little brother’s birthday since he’s wanted a guitar his size for a while.
A Peavey Backstage 10w amp for 60 bucks to use as a practice amp since I currently practice with a 120w.
A Digitech Death Metal for 50 bucks, since I’ve wanted to try a really heavy distortion pedal for a while but haven’t had money to blow on it.
And with the last 10 bucks and a few cents I’d buy 2 sets of Ernie Ball Skinny Top Heavy Bottom’s, since I’ve wanted to try heavier strings out for a while, and a second pair in case I like them, if not I’ll sell them to a friend.
Thanks, may the person who deserves it the most win!
I have been looking at acoustic guitars, but another electric wouldn’t hurt anything either.
Well thank you for the chance, I would purchase a guitar for my 9 year old boy and one for my 4 year old girl, they both like hearing me play guitar, I have a cheap guitar nothing fancy, but it is the fun I have playing it that matters, I am not a professional musician but I like to play guitar and sing thanks once again
Would love to win!!

A Fender Telecaster.
If I win I will buy a PRS SE guitar to practice my John Tuggle slide guitar lessons on.
I love blues and love your lessons!
I’d probably buy a small tube amp, I’m using a Peavey Vypyr.
Hi John,
Thanks for all the lessons. I have been a fresh out of college guitarist struggling with an old fender piece o’ junk for the last 4 years. I know this guitar is holding me back (very difficult to play!) but because of this economy I can barely make any money to food on the table! With the $500 I would buy a guitar I could really play with and ACTUALLY make some right sounds! It would be too unreal winning
a fender pro jr and if any left over a reissue paf for my old 70s aria lespaul copy that i use as a slide guitar
If I won I think I would have to look at a nice new acoustic
mmmmmmmmm nice
Give me back my old guitar….new version..
Gibson ES 335 Satin / red
line 6 m13
Wow. $500? Well, since John, you have been a tremendous help in building my chops (thanks to your videos as a gift from my loving wife), I think it is time I start recording at home. The one piece that I am missing is an audio interface for my pc. My friends say my songs are good, but unless I can lay them down and share, I will never truly know.
$500 toward an audio interface would be the difference between dreams and reality. The difference between my mundane job and living my passion.
I would buy a new Bridge for my Gibson Les Paul and an assortment of other items for my other guitars, just to keep them in top shape.
I would also like some type of digital system to play my backing tracks. I want to try and do some live gigs before I get any older LOL 63 now and can finally play some blues. Thanks for the chance to participate in your contest.
I would buy a Vox AC 15 or 30 if I won this contest
500.- dolars, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, a valve amp, yes.
I’d either buy gear for my band or a high-end acoustic guitar.
John Reply:

Check that ‘high end” comment!! I’d buy a better-than-I have-now-acoustic guitar!!
What would I buy from Sweetwater? Well I’ve purchased stuff from them before. They set up a PRS guitar I bought from them so it’s perfect! I’ve had other players (WAY better than me play it and raved. . .) Tough question, maybe put it toward a better sound board or upgrade my amp. (That guitar deserves to be heard through a nice rig!)
Thanks John for your informative lessons. If I won, I would pick up a Fender Classic Player ’60s Stratocaster with the fat C neck to better fit my big bear claws.
Take care.
Tom
If I won that $500 I would definitely put it towards a bigger interface for my MBox 2 rig so that I could record more instruments at once. It’s all about live recording!
My band is desperately in need of new PA speakers, so this would give me the opportunity to pick up a decent pair!
Cool contest. I think if I won, I’d buy a new acoustic guitar. My old one has holes worn deep into the fretboard.
Well, I would use the winnings to promote guitar playing in my community. Guitar has been my life and I would use this opportunity to spread the guitar word to others.
Timo
If I won, I’d probably buy a Fender Tele. It would make a nice addition to my collection.
A left handed Les Paul
I would use the $500 to add to money I’ve saving up for a 1960’s (thin neck) Les Paul Standard or Custom (re-issued) guitar. I have a 30th anniversary Gibson LP Deluxe, which I love except for the thick neck. I’ve also considered an SG. But the money would move me closer to being able to make my dream purchase – whichever of those it would be!
If I won I would buy a much needed new amp. preferably a nice ole blues junior. mmm fender amp and strat = heaven
John,
your dvd’s work for lap steel also. I’d buy a recorder and a mic.
Andy
Awesome contest! I think I would have to buy a new acoustic, not sure which.
Great Contest! I would use the $500 towards an Gibson ES 335
If I won a $500.00 gift certificate, I’d use it to get an Epiphone PR-5E and an Epiphone Les Paul Special II. Epiphone is building some amazing guitars at great prices.
John, I visited the Sweetwater site and it’s like a candy store. I’d try to get as much bang for the $500 as I could. One of those Tascam players could help me play a little better. Then there are a bunch of amps I could pick from but a Fender FM 212 DSP looks kinda sweet, probably get me a divorce. Could get both for the $500 (the divorce would be extra).
I would buy a new acoustic guitar for my son.
If I’m fortunate enough to win this contest, I will be purchasing a Boss BR-900CD 8 Track Portable Digital Studio Workstation and a Shure SM58 Microphone, so that my 13 year old son and I can record our fun times jamming together. He sings, I play guitar.
Hummm, $500 goes a long way. I guess I’d look to upgrade some of my older gear that needs replacing, you know, get gear without duct tape and stuff.
I’d love to buy a Fender Bass. Thanks for the contest. Good luck everyone.
I only have one cymbal, so i would have to order some zildjins!!
Thats awsome, a chance to win $500.00. If I win it Sweetwater will be getting an order for a new amp I’ve wanted for some time. I’ve been looking at the “Peavy Vyper”. That is one sweet amp at all sizes. What a combo of sounds that thing puts out.
I would buy a guitar I could set up for slide playing
I’ve dreamed of owning my perfect strat perfect strat for over 30 years. Something else has always gotten in the way…not a doubt what this money would go toward!!!
Cool contest. I would probably buy a new acoustic guitar, maybe an electric, a Grestch would be real nice.
What I would buy if I won would is an amp that I could hear over the other players.
I am currently practicing through a Vypyr 30.
Hey, this sounds like a cool gig. $500 bucks at sweetwater sound would go towards a Schecter Omen Extreme 6 FR and as many strings as I can get. I’ve been aching for that guitar. It calls for me because it knows I will treat it well. lol!
~Dylan~ Good luck to all!

I’d buy a Fender Classic 50’s strat w/ maple fingerboard and v-neck. Probably surf green.

I would buy a guitar for my husband, and some sound equipment. He is learing to play, but his old guitar isn’t very good……. WHAT a great suprise present this would be for him, THEN< he can also teach me to play!!!!
I would definitely invest in a new guitar. Mine is falling apart and I can’t afford to fix/buy a new one at the moment because a musicians salary has a lot to be desired. “Faith” has definitely seen better days. I’m crossing my fingers.
Fulltone Clyde Deluxe wah (have been putting off forever) and the remainder in BOSS FX
As I am getting better, I would upgrade my guitar to an American Fender Telecaster. Hope I win.
I would love to win these!!!!
I’ve been having problems with my left wrist lately that I finally tracked down to the bind that playing my 34″ scale basses puts on my wrist. So, I would buy a short scale bass. Specifically, an Epiphone Allen Woody Rumblekat.
Recording equipment for my band.
I would buy the new marshall haze40 combo amp
I would use this prize for money towards a new amp. My combo amp just isn’t cutting it anymore, and I am looking to buy an all-tube half-stack when I have the money.

I’m still new to electric guitar, and $500 free cash? I’m like a kid in a candy store! I have a few, so can’t give one item, but the items I have narrowed down are Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, Fender Blues Junior, or maybe a Fender Fat Strat HSS.
It would be a hard desision for me! Good luck everyone!
